My Little Pony 3D is a Three-Dimensional game created in blender. This game is currently open source, and editable by anyone. The songs featured in this game are Always, What is Love?, Propane Nightmares, Lux Aeterna, and Bittersweet Symphony.

Currently, the game is only an open world sandbox, where you can control a pony and walk around. There is nothing to interact with, and no actual point to this game. The 3D models have a very Nintendo 64 type feel, and they're not bad at all. The controls are your average WASD movement, Shift for running, and F for flying. Pressing the numbers 1-6 will spawn different ponies that you can control, and pressing 0 will spawn an NPC that moves around randomly (Applejack only at the moment). The VBNM keys will change the music, BUT BE WARNED, THIS WILL CRASH THE GAME IF YOU ARE ON A 32-BIT SYSTEM.

The game is very simplistic at it's current state, and the world is fairly boring, with a few buildings and trees scattered. It is possible to fly off the world, and past the sky bubble. There are many things that this game could use, more polished controls, borders, blinking, better models for everything (Though I kinda like the whole N64 Style).

The game is extremely well made for such an early release, and such a young developer (Age of 14). The controls feel a little sloppy, and the camera is a pain to control while flying. While the models could use a lot of work, they're still really good. This Open Source game is going to lead to a lot of amazing things.
I would like to point out that you DO NOT, in fact, need Blender or Python to run the game. Also, the game has received some slight updates recently (faster moving speed and BOUNCING PINKIE PIE!)

Delete<< to this guy, i had the same thing on an older pc and im pretty sure its to do with GSLS (so your graphics card) its just because of some of the ways textures were used in the game.

DeleteI know, it's a fangame, but I think it needs more polygons. Did you see Team Fortress 2 with its coimmunity weapons? Community guys make models like professional designers.

Deleteoh if only it didn't crash when trying to do music in a 32 bit environment, why should it matter what bit it is for that, I'd like to think enabling a media player wouldn't take all kinds of crazy, but I know not the skill required for such things so I won't complain uch, but instead hope it gets remedied in the future

Hi, since you leave it open source anyway, may I try to use your model for SC2? With ponies some awesome games cpoukd be made in SC2 and I need a pony model, Hope you don't mind and if this ever used I would make sure credits to be given to you fully. I have a hard time finding out how from blender to get a pony max with its Animations because OBJ only gets model and texture eventually.

Yeah I downloaded it and when I try to open it, it says windows needs to know what program made it to open it. I'm not really good at this kind of thing so could some one help me?? Pleeeaaasee??? I really want to use it :D

ReplyDeleteThanks for all the feedback and support. Just to answer a few questions, if all you can see is a white screen except for a few objects, your graphics card doesn't support the GLSL graphics used in the game, and you would need a new graphics card for the game to run. As for people who can't run the exe, all I can really say is that the game should work on its own as long as the os is supported. Maybe re-downloading the game could work.
Finally Abom, if you want to learn to use blender, the best place to go is Blender Cookie or Blender Guru.

I think one thing that should be done for the game is being able to turn yourself around while flying.
ReplyDeleteThe flying could be improved. I'd make it so you can change your pitch and yaw, and the roll works automatically to bank your turns. Alternately, you control pitch and roll, and the yaw changes to whatever it would have to be to make that a banked turn.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I suggest giving it more realistic flight physics. Your speed should increase constantly downward, plus constantly forward, and should be slowed by air resistance. From what I can find, that's proportional to your speed at low velocities, and proportional to the square of your speed at high velocities. So make it something like a*v^2+b*v. I have no idea what to use for a and b, though.
Naturally, you'd have to fly straight down if you want to make a sonic rainboom.
Beyond that, in the later versions, try and make it so you can easily make a game in it. It would be interesting if someone managed to port Story of the Blanks to this.

I need some help. I'm trying to play this game on my computer, which is a 32-bit Mac. I've downloaded Blender and redownloaded the game at least thirty times (literally!) and the game will never open. A few times when I tried to open it it told me it had no default application, so I selected the only application it would go in, QuickTime Player. If I open the game in QuickTime Player, it won't open, telling me the file is not a movie (hurr durr). Only two game files can even come CLOSE to opening, meaning that the Blender logo appears in the little bar at the bottom at the screen and then vanishes two seconds later. And other times it appears as a .zip file which I can't do anything with. Please help me!

You could download blender and open it with that. Press P to play the game. Presumably there's some way to export it as something you can play on your computer, but I don't know how.

ReplyDeleteIt won't work for me. The 64bit exe crashes and the 32bit one loads but gets stuck with a green field and two houses, and no matter what I press nothing happens. The only weird message in the console is "Warning! bundled python not found and is expected on this platform. (if you built with CMake: 'install' target may have not been built)". I already installed Python though, in case this is the reason. Can anypony help please?

Never mind, I found out what was missing. You need to press a number key (1 to 6) in order to spawn a pony. You then control them with the W A S D keys. You can move the camera with the arrow keys, and press F to fly. Also, the > button cycles between day and night.

ummm... i have one question. HOW DO YOU MODIFY THE PONY MODEL'S TEXTURES?! i went looking through the thing that i had, it said somewhere site packages...something like that. so now i can actually give some packages out that i meant for my own copy. but. HOW DO I MODIFY TEXTURES?!

I thought this might be of interest: I decided to try modding this game a week ago, and came up with a fork of my own. I added a lot to it, and am pretty happy with how it looks so far.

Hey man, I downloaded the game and I have the same problem as a lot of people (white except for houses, trees etc.) I read the comments and saw you said I'd need a new graphics card. The only problem is, I'm running it on a netbook and I'm not allowed to do anything with it. I know it might be a bit much to ask, but could you please make a different version for people who run it on netbooks/laptops? You know, like with downgraded graphics or something? ReplyDeleteI've got the game running, but there's something a little...odd.
ReplyDeletePressing escape brings up what I presume to be the menu, when it comes up it has two pink boxes on the far left of the screen. One of them seems to have a large, backwards S on it, while the other has nothing. Clicking the bottom one (with the S) returns to the game, clicking the top one quits the game.
I'm guessing these are just quit and return buttons, but why are they so far on the left?
i would like to help with the model of ponyville and with the modeling in general, where can i contact with the creator of the game?

I don't know how late I am but it is working and with things added, it could be an amazing game. I already have fun just flying around lol. Controls are quite annoying at first, but I got used to them. Mine also said something about "bundled python" but it is running just fine...

ReplyDeleteMaybe the standalone version doesn't work too well then. I suggest getting and installing Blender, then opening the source with that. Then in Blender press the P key to start the game engine. I mostly tested it like that.
